Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

The Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is a highly selective scholarship for the nation’s top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges or universities. Each Cooke Scholar has access to generous financial support for two to three years, college planning support, ongoing advising, and the opportunity to connect with the thriving community of fellow scholars.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Sophomore Status – Be a current student at an accredited U.S. community college or two-year institution with sophomore status by January 1, 2020, or a recent graduate (since spring 2015).
  • Fall College Enrollment– Plan to enroll full-time in a baccalaureate program at an accredited college or university in fall 2020.
  • GPA– Have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).
  • Financial Need– Demonstrate unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. Last year’s cohort of new transfer scholarship recipients had a median family income of approximately $32,000.
  • No previous enrollment or attendance at a four-year institution – Students who have attended a four-year institution in the past are not eligible for this scholarship.

This highly competitive scholarship provides:

  • Up to $40,000 per year to attend a four-year accredited undergraduate school.
  • Ability to pursue any area of study.
  • Personal advising about selecting a college and navigating financial aid.
  • Multifaceted advising about how to transition to a four-year college and maximize the student experience.

CPT James Ahn Special Forces Memorial Scholarship

CPT James Ahn Memorial Scholarship

Captain James Ahn, a graduate of UC Riverside and the Claremont McKenna College Army ROTC program, died in 2015 during a parachute training operation while participating with his Special Forces unit in Washington State.

In James’ honor, we are sponsoring an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a Special Forces Veteran who is working towards the completion of a higher education degree.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Former Special Forces Service Member
  • Full time student pursuing degree/certification completion at an accredited post secondary institution including graduate school, university, college, community college, or vocational/technical institution.
  • Applicants must complete the application in full by June 1, 2021

The Following AFCEA scholarships are available to eligible applicants pursuing majors whose fields align with the mission of the AFCEA. Only undergraduate students enrolled in a 4-year institution with sophomore or junior status are eligible to apply. 

Application Window for All Three Scholarships: Mid-January to April

STEM Major Scholarship ($2,500)

Eligibility: All Undergraduate US. Citizens or Permanent Residents with a 3.0 GPA or higher are invited to apply.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a woman or a minority student. All applicants who are US. Citizens or Permanent Residents with a 3.0 GPA or higher are invited to apply.

Eligibility: All Undergraduate US. Citizens or Permanent Residents with a 3.0 GPA or higher are invited to apply. 

Qualifying Majors: Cyber Security, Computer Science, Digital Forensics, Information Assurance, Information Technology, Electronic Engineering, and other fields related to the support of U.S. Cyber enterprises.

AFCEA War Veterans Scholarships

AFCEA War Veterans Scholarships

Merit-based, $2,500 scholarship for active duty or honorably discharged U.S. veterans including Reservists and National Guardsmen who deployed overseas in support of: Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, Operation Inherent Resolve, or Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. Applicants must also have sophomore or junior status and are enrolled in a 4-year institution pursuing a STEM degree. 

Application Window: Mid-August to November 

Eligibility: U.S. Citizen, sophomore or junior status with a 3.0 GPA or higher enrolled either part-time or full time in a 4-year institution. Must have served in one of the above listed Overseas Contingency Operations.

Air Force Aid Society Scholarships

Air Force Aid Society Scholarships

The AFAS awards 10 $5,000 merit-based scholarships to dependent children and spouses of active duty or retired Airmen who demonstrate outstanding academic potential based on GPA. The AFAS sponsors multiple scholarship opportunities that can be viewed on their website.

Eligibility: Incoming college freshmen students who have already completed the Arnold Education Grant application successfully

American Veterans Scholarships (AMVETS)

American Veterans Scholarships (AMVETS)

AMVETS annually awards Scholarships to deserving high school seniors, J/ROTC students, veterans, and service members pursuing a higher education. Scholarships are also offered at many of the AMVETS’ Posts and Departments. 

Application Window: Spring

Eligibility:

  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Must provide evidence of active duty status or veteran status having served honorably
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment to an eligible program
  • Must not be in default on a federal student loan
  • Must not be convicted under state or federal law for sale of or possession of illegal drugs
  • Must agree to authorize AMVETS to publicize your scholarship award, if you are selected

Qualifying Majors: No specific major degree outlined.

Boren Awards

The Boren Awards promote long-term linguistic and cultural immersion by providing financial support for U.S. undergraduate students (Boren Scholarships) and graduate students (Boren Fellowships) to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Typically, programs should be at least six months long and include intensive language study. Undergraduate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) majors are also eligible for scholarships for summer study with an 8 week minimum. 

Application Window: October to mid-January 

  1. Boren Scholarships (up to $20,000, depending on the program length)

    Eligibility: U.S. citizen, matriculated in an undergraduate degree program, applying to a study abroad program in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

    Qualifying Majors: Any major that leads to an undergraduate degree.

  2. Boren Fellowships (up to $24,000 for overseas study; up to $30,000 for domestic and overseas programs)

Eligibility: U.S. citizen, matriculated in or applying to a graduate degree program, planning an overseas program in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

Qualifying Majors: Any major that leads toward a graduate degree.

Education Connection Military Scholarship

Education Connection Military Scholarship

Education is valuable, but it can also be costly. Paying for college on top of everyday expenses can be difficult, and every little bit can help! To show thanks for the sacrifices made by the United States military and their families, Education Connection is offering a scholarship worth $1,000. We hope to help offset the costs of earning a degree and pursuing those next steps in your civilian career path.

The winner can use the $1,000 tuition voucher for any cost related to his or her college. Some restrictions may apply based on the school.

Application Window: Open

Eligibility: Applicants must be military active duty, honorably discharged, veteran, or a spouse from any branch of the military.

This scholarship is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. They must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application. And, are enrolled, or do enroll no later than the fall of 2021 in an accredited institution of higher learning.

Freedom Alliance Scholarship

Freedom Alliance Scholarship

The Freedom Alliance Scholarship is for children of U.S. service members who have been killed in action, are 100% disabled due to combat, have been POWs or MIA, or have been awarded the Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Air Force Cross, or Coast Guard Cross who intend to pursue a 4-year undergraduate degree. 

Application Window: Ongoing 

Eligibility: High school seniors, high school graduates, or current undergraduate students under the age of 26 who are dependents of a U.S. service member subject to the aforementioned conditions.

Heroes' Legacy Scholarship

Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship

The “Heroes’ Legacy Scholarships” program honors not only those who have fallen in battle, but all who have died or have become disabled through their active military service since September 11, 2001. The program is open to their dependent unmarried children under age 23. 

Application Window: Mid-December

Eligibility: Dependent unmarried children under age 23 of active duty personnel, Reserve/Guard and retired military members, or survivors of service members who died while on active duty may apply for a Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship if they meet one of the following additional criteria:

  • One of the parents died while serving on active duty on or after September 11, 2001 in any branch or component of the U. S. Armed Forces OR
  •  One of the parents, while serving on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, became disabled – meaning that the parent qualified for receipt of Traumatic Service members’ Group Life Insurance (TSGLI) OR
  • One of the parents, who was on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, received a permanent and total compensation rating of 100% from the Department of Defense or Department of Veterans Affairs.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers research, study and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students. 

Application Window: April – October 

Eligibility: Applicants must be citizens or nationals of the United States of America at the time of application.  Permanent residents are not eligible. 

Applicants must have a conferred bachelor’s degree or equivalent before the start of the grant. In the creative and performing arts, four years of professional training and/or experience meets the basic eligibility requirement.

Applicants must be in good health. Grantees will be required to submit a satisfactory Medical Certificate from a physician. 

Applicants must have sufficient proficiency in the written and spoken language of the host country sufficient to communicate with the people and to carry out the proposed study/research. This is especially important for projects in the social sciences and the humanities. 

Applicants may hold a J.D. at the time of application. 

Doctors of Medicine may receive grants for advanced academic study, but not for internships or residencies. Scholars with an M.D. degree who have completed their formal postgraduate training and propose attachment to a hospital or clinic for the purpose of independent or collaborative research should apply to the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Grants shall not authorize activity for which a license to practice medicine or nursing is required. The Fulbright Program cannot authorize proposals for medical research that involves clinical training, patient care or patient contact. 

Qualifying Majors: Preference will be given to applicants whose higher education was undertaken primarily at educational institutions in the United States. 

Candidates who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States will be given preference, provided their qualifications are approximately equivalent to those of other candidates. 

Grant benefits for all Fulbright U.S. Student grants include: 

  • Round-trip transportation to the host country
  • Funding to cover room, board, and incidental costs, based on the cost of living in the host country
  • Accident & Sickness Health Benefits
  • 24/7 support line for urgent and non-urgent situations 

In some countries, grants may also include:

Legacy Scholarship

The American Legion Legacy scholarship is a $20,000 need-based scholarship to assist students fulfill financial gaps after using all available state and federal financial aid. Undergraduate or graduate students who are children of disabled or deceased post-9/11 U.S. service members are eligible to apply. 

Application Window: April 

Eligibility: Children of U.S. service members who died while on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001 and children of post-9/11 veterans with a disability rating of 50 percent or greater are eligible to apply.

Lint Center for National Security Studies, Inc.

The mission of the Lint Center for National Security Studies is to foster and further the educational development and opportunities for the next generation of America’s Counterintelligence and National Security Workers.  The Center focuses on empowering individuals, enhancing the study of national security issues, and enabling emerging leaders to be mentored by established current-and-former industry experts. Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation provides children of Marines scholarship opportunities to help pay for higher education with awards ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 annually. All scholarships can be viewed at the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Website. 

Application Window: All year-round for career/technical education scholarships and Jan. 1 – March 1 for undergraduate/associate scholarships. 

Eligibility: Must be the child of an active duty, reserve, or veteran U.S. Marine, a Marine who was killed while serving in the Marine Corps, an active duty, reserve, or veteran U.S. Navy corpsman who is/was attached to a Marine unit, or a Navy Corpsman attached to a Marine unit who was killed in action while serving in the U.S. Navy. Must have at least a 2.00 GPA and must be attending/planning to attend a school listed on the MCSF website.

Pat Tillman Foundation - Tillman Scholar

Pat Tillman Foundation – Tillman Scholar

Tillman Scholarships cover all annual academic expenses, including tuition, books, and living expenses and are eligible to full-time spouses, active duty, or veteran students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. Tillman Scholars also have access to a national network of mentors and industry leaders at their disposal. Recipients of the Tillman Scholarships are eligible to renew their scholarships annually after having meeting certain GPA and academic progress requirements. 

Application Window: February 

Eligibility: Spouses, active duty, Reservists, National Guardsmen, and veteran students pursing an undergraduate or graduate degree at a residential or online campus are invited to apply. Must have been accepted to an institution by Feb. 28.

Military Spouse Scholarships

The mission of this scholarship program is to help prepare military spouses for meaningful employment and to better contribute to their family’s financial security. Our scholarships are awarded to spouses of members of all Uniformed Services. 

Application Window: No deadline, Applicants can apply anytime.

Eligibility: Any spouse with a valid military ID is eligible.

Patriot Legacy Fund Scholarship

Patriot Legacy Fund Scholarship

The Patriot Legacy Fund awards need-based scholarships of $5,000 to qualifying dependent students. Multiple scholarship opportunities are available on the Patriot Legacy Fund website for students who meet various criteria determined by the Patriot Legacy Fund. 

Application Window: March – April 

Eligibility: Qualifying applicants must be dependents of U.S. veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 10% or higher. Applicants must be 23 years old or younger and must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Must be enrolled, accepted, or pending acceptance into an undergraduate program.

Raytheon Patriot Scholarship

Raytheon Patriot Scholarship

Raytheon and Student Veterans of America will select two student veterans with a demonstrated passion for their field of study to receive $10,000 scholarships. 

Application Window: April 

Eligibility: Honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran with sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate status attending a 4-year institution.

Essay: Please provide answers to the following three essay questions in one document using a maximum of 300-500 words per essay. Your document must be submitted as a PDF, and include your name and clearly specify each answer by number.

  1. What do you hope to accomplish with your degree?  In your answer, please describe how your experiences have influenced the goals you have for yourself.
  2. Briefly describe what it means to you to have served in the U.S Army. Provide information if your assignment included service as part of a Patriot unit.
  3. Please provide an example of how you have demonstrated leadership. Explain how you were influential and what you were trying to achieve. This does not have to be demonstrated through formal or traditional leadership roles.  Think broadly and examine the many ways you are having an effect on the members of your technical community, your chapter, your university, or your broader community.

Scholarships for Military Children Program

The Scholarships for Military Children Program was created in recognition of the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force and to celebrate the role of the commissary in the military family community. A total of 500 scholarship grants, each for $2,000, will be awarded for school year 2019-2020. 

Application Window: Mid-December 

Eligibility: Dependent unmarried children under age 23 of active U.S. military duty personnel, reserve/guard and retired military members, or survivors of U.S. service members who died while on active duty (also see Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship) or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military, may apply for a scholarship.

Applicants must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate program of study leading to a bachelor’s degree at an accredited U.S. college or university in the fall term of 2019. High school applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 basis). College applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50. College freshmen must submit a first semester college transcript.

The VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” provides service members and veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt. It’s just another way for us to say “thank you” to those who fought for our freedoms.

Eligibility:

  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be retired, honorably discharged, active duty, or a member of the National Guard or Reserve.
  • Have completed Basic Training and follow-on training (Advanced Individual Training, technical school, etc.).
  • Separated with or currently hold a military rank of E-5 or below.
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
  • Participate in, be accepted to or currently enrolled in a VA-approved program or school at an accredited post-secondary institution.

Wings Over America

Wings Over America Scholarships

Wings Over America provides merit-based college scholarships to dependent children and spouses of U.S. Navy personnel who have served within the Naval Air Forces. 50 scholarships are given annually to students who plan to continue their education at a community college, trade school, technical school, and traditional 4-year institutions. 

Application Window: Oct. 1 – March 1 

Eligibility: Dependent children and spouses of enlisted or officer Naval Aviation personnel qualify for this scholarship. Further eligibility will be determined by Wings Over America during a pre-qualification screening. The deadline to submit the necessary paperwork for this screening is Feb. 1.
